We had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with New West Records and Vector Management in the live concert filming of the legendary John Hiatt at the historic Franklin Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee. Robot Fondue's Matt Bizer partnered with New West's Gary Briggs in directing the magical 2 night event that brought Robot Fondue's crew from both New York and Austin to the country music capital.
We had quite the journey ahead of us. And it was the debut of “The Barth”, our "BRAND NEW" (restored vintage BARTH RV) 16 camera mobile live production truck.
We left Austin, Texas at 1:00pm Sunday afternoon. Multiple stops; including more Crew Fondue pickups, 1 flat tire and 866 miles later, we arrived in Franklin, TN at 5:40 am Monday morning. We found a local Wal-Mart and set up camp to sleep for a few hours.
Tuesday was solely dedicated to pre-production, followed by a dress rehearsal with John and the band. Camera checks were being performed, the crane was being set up and cables were being run for the live feed to the Barth.
Wednesday night’s show was amazing!
Thursday morning, we were back at the Franklin Theatre and ready for more! There was a new energy that filled the theatre; personally I think it was Gary Briggs' (New West A&R) burning of a sage spirit cleansing stick..
There isn’t a way to adequately describe Thursday night’s show, other than it was something to remember. The energy, the excitement, and the fun you saw on the stage as John, Doug, Ken, Brandon and Nathan performed, is something I don’t think any of us will ever forget. John Hiatt and the Combo put on the show of a lifetime. We were so honored to be part of this event.
This show was one for the books. We look forward to many more!
